Greetings,

My name is Jacob Moorman; I am the Quality of Service Manager for
SourceForge.net. I am writing to you today because you are listed as an
administrator on the 'liflg' project, currently hosted on SourceForge.net.

This message is a bit verbose; we wanted to provide all of the details we
reviewed to come to the following decision, so you would be able to respond with
any concerns.

Overview: A review of your project shows that it is well outside our hosting
policies. As result, we plan to remove this project from SourceForge.net within
the next two weeks. We recognize that your project has benefit to gamers within
the community, but our focus is on hosting for Open Source software development
projects, and your project appears to be outside this scope, based on our
review. If you, the project administrators, have concerns about this project
removal, please do let us know; we will be glad to discuss this matter with you
over the next few days, if needed. Otherwise, please seek alternate hosting for
your project. We regret that we are not able to continue hosting your project.

An overview of the information we have reviewed:

Your project was registered back in January of 2004 based on a description of:

"Loki Installers for Linux Gamers It is our goal to push Linux as a gaming
platform. Because of the limited amount of native Linux games, its due to wine
(www.winehq.org) and winex (www.transgaming.com) that it is possible to play
Windows games under Linux. But sadly the first problems appear with
de/installing or updating such games. With the help of the loki tools
(http://icculus.org/loki_setup/) we try to simplify the de/installation and
updating of Windows games. Additional we create Installers for native Linux
games to simplify complicatet installation processes, to correct provided
Installers of commercial games and to provide Installers for subsequent ported
windows games."

This registration also stated that all project materials would be made available
under the GNU GPL, an Open Source license, in compliance with our Terms of
Service Agreement.

SourceForge.net provides hosting solely for Open Source software development
projects. Part of the requirement to be considered Open Source is the
availability of source code. SourceForge.net policies require that all
materials released by projects using SourceForge.net be Open Source in nature.
Binary file releases made through our File Release System must be accompanied by
source code file releases made through our File Release System.

Our review of your project:

NO SOURCE CODE: Based on a review of your project, it appears that a large
amount of data has been released via the File Release System in binary form,
without source code. These materials seem to include quite a large amount of
content which is under license terms which do not comply with the Open Source
Definition (which we use to determine hosting eligibility of licensed materials).

PACKAGING PROJECT, NOT DEVELOPMENT: SourceForge.net is geared directly toward
Open Source software development projects. We presently host a very small
number of distribution and packaging projects. When your project registration
was accepted, it was our understanding that you were mainly going to be
performing software development work, not repackaging work. A brief review of
the files your project has made available clearly shows to us that your efforts
are solely related to repackaging. Our goal continues to be the focussing of
our resources on software development and porting projects; pure packaging
projects are not generally accepted for hosting due to disk requirements and
other factors related to life cycle.

DISK REQUIREMENTS: Your project is currently using 11GB (7.8GB from non-hidden
releases) of disk on our project download servers. This places your project
within the top 1% of disk consumers on these servers.

At this time, we are planning to end our hosting of your project within the next
two weeks, as it is outside the scope of our hosting policies.

If you have questions or concerns regarding this matter, please reply directly.

Thank you,

Jacob Moorman

How can I help you?
... we are searching a new hoster for our project

we would need:
- webspace (a lot)
- ssh access
- a lot of free traffic :)

we are thinking about distributing the files using bit torrent,
this would not be our favourite methode to spread files
but bit torrent would be a possibility to reduce traffic
