Bildschirm nach System-Update schwarz

Hallo !

Nach einem System-Update (Kernel deaktiviert, sonst alles auf Standard gelassen) fährt meine 10.0 zwar noch hoch, aber ungefähr mit kde-Start wird der Bildschirm (1280er TFT, 4:3, geforce 7300) schwarz, geht offenbar auf standby. Das System läuft aber, ich kann von einem anderen Rechner per vnc ganz normal auf meine kde-Session zugreifen.

Inzwischen habe ich es geschafft, auch wieder am Rechner selbst ins kde zu kommen, indem ich folgendes mache:

Rettungssystem hochfahren
init 3
als root anmelden
sax2 -a
startx

Dann muss ich lediglich die Grafik- bzw Bildschirmeinstellung mit Yast anpassen, und alles läuft wie früher.

Nur leider ist das nach dem nächsten Booten wieder im Eimer.

Wie kann ich das System dauerhaft wieder reparieren ?

Keine Ahnung, was das Update im Detail alles beinhaltete. Ich habe die vorgeschlagenen Elemente so belassen (außer dem Kernel).

Jungs .... Hilfe bitte !
Das System ist so nicht mehr wirklich alltagstauglich

EDIT:
nach Deinstalltion und anschließender neuinstallation von sax bin ich zumindest schonmal sowei, dass ich nun den PC im failsafe-Modus starte, dann nur einloggen und danach startx , und alles schaut gut aus, auch die Auflösung des Bildschirms hat Suse sich gemerkt und stellt es korrekt dar.
Nur im normalen Modus klappt das nicht, ich muss immer failsafe starten.

Hab in grub auch Testweise den normalen Modus angewählt und mit
apm=off acpi=off splash=0 noapic
gestartet, aber hat nichts gebracht.
Ich muß weiterhin den failsafe-Modus wählen.
