Hello, I would like to share this problem along with its solution.
I have installed Opensuse 12.2 on my Asus U30SD-RO058V notbook with Nvidia card. I am using the default graphics driver "nouveau" and not the original Nvidia driver.
After a kernel update I experienced the computer freezing at random times! The "magic sysrq keys" e.g. Alt+Print+k or Alt+Print+ reisub sometimes worked but sometimes not, I had to switch off power and restart.
The system logfiles showed no hint.
Finally I noticed, that a tool using OpenGL did not work any more:
Also "glxgears'" did not work and "glxinfo" showed only that GLX was not available.
With a colleague (many thanks to Dennis Czeremin) I found the solution:
I had triede out the Nvidia driver a year ago, and then reverted to the standard driver. Some packages have remained (search for package names containing nvidia, nvidia-computeG02), and I could deinstall since they were not needed any more. I then "actualised"/updated the remaining MESA drivers.
--> everything ok.

Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
