wenn ich das richtig sehe, fehlt nur die Datei /boot/grub/grub.cfg. Um diese zu erstellen gehst Du wie folgt vor:

Starte Dein LIVE-System und führe folgende Befehle in einer Konsole aus

sudo mount /dev/mmcblk0p2 /mnt
sudo mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 /mnt/boot/efi
sudo mount -o rbind /dev /mnt/dev
sudo mount -o rbind /sys /mnt/sys
sudo mount -o rbind /proc /mnt/proc
sudo mount -o rbind /run /mnt/run
sudo chroot /mnt
sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
exit
sudo umount /dev/mmcblk0p1
sudo umount /dev/mmcblk0p2
systemctl isolate reboot

Der letzte Befehl sollte einen Neustart Deines Systems auslösen und dabei sollte dann (hoffentlich) das installierte Linux Mint starten.

Falls nicht, wäre der nächste Versuch, den Bootloader noch einmal komplett neu zu installieren.

Macht es Sinn auf LinuxMint 22 Wilma zu upgraden und wenn ja, wie gehe ich am Besten vor ?

Linux Mint 22 verwendet einen deutlich neueren Kernel (6.8), ein Versionswechsel wäre daher sinnvoll.

Da Deine Hardware mit 4 GB Arbeitsspeicher und 500GB eMMC Datenspeicher nicht allzu üppig dimensioniert ist, würde ich Dir eher zu einer Neu-Installation raten und zwar aus folgenden Gründen:

• Mit einer Neu-Installation wäre sichergestellt, dass Dein ohnehin schon recht knapp bemessener Speicherplatz nicht durch "Überreste" einer alten OS-Version belastet wird.
• Bei einer Neu-Installation könntest Du noch eine 4GB große SWAP-Partition (was bei 4GB Arbeitsspeicher ggf. sinnvoll sein könnte und Dir auch ein "suspend-to-disk" erlauben würde) und eine separate Partition für /home anlegen.

Allerdings birgt eine Neu-Installation auch Nachteile/Risiken:

• Der in Beitrag #8 gezeigte Fehler könnte eine Neu-Installation verhindern (und im schlimmsten Fall ein unbrauchbares System zurück lassen).
• Der in Beitrag #8 gezeigte Fehler wird sehr wahrscheinlich erneut zu einer unvollständigen Bootloader-Installation führen, sodass Du die in Beitrag #22 beschriebene Prozedur nochmals durchführen musst.

Da ich ausschließlich openSUSE Tumbleweed verwende kann ich Dir leider nicht sagen, wie man in einem Linux Mint System einen Versionswechsel durchführt. Aber da können Dir andere Forumsmitglieder sicherlich weiterhelfen.

Solltest Du eine Neu-Installation wagen wollen und dabei auch separate Partitionen für SWAP und /home anlegen wollen, wäre meine Empfehlung die aktuelle Partition /dev/mmcblk0p2 bereits vorab mit Hilfe des LIVE-Systems zu löschen und dann in 3 neue Partitionen

• /dev/mmcblk0p2 4GB SWAP
• /dev/mmcblk0p3 30GB /
• /dev/mmcblk0p4 REST /home

aufzuteilen. Die Partition /dev/mmcblk0p1 würde ich unverändert lassen.

der Vollständigkeit auch für andere Nutzer ist Deine Empfehlung einer Neuinstallation statt eines upgrades von Linux Mint 21.3 auf Linux Mint 22 Wilma absolut zu empfehlen.
Wie von Dir erwartet, trat der gleiche Fehler bzgl. der grub-Installation auf, wie oben beschrieben.
Aber Deine beschriebene Befehlsfolge auf #22 hat zu einem funktionierenden LinuxMint 22 Wilma auf der Festplatte geführt.

Ich sehe es als ziemliche Schwäche der Installationsroutine, eine einzige Datei (/boot/grub/grub.cfg) auszulassen, nur weil sich

ein eigenwilliges, die Spezifikation scheuendes UEFI

nicht nur weigert, Abfragen aus dem NVRAM auszuführen, sondern offenbar dort auch keine Eintragungen zuläßt. Durch das Anlegen der "Standdard-Datei" \EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI steht einem Systemstart ja nichts im Wege. Es ist Deine Entscheidung, ob Dir das einen bug report wert ist.

Da ich die entsprechenden Routinen nicht kenne, kann ich nicht ausschließen, daß bei einer Bootloader-Aktualisierung erneut Probleme auftreten können, aber jetzt kannst Du sie ja beheben.
