Nach ATI-Treiber-Installation friert KDE ein

Hallo Gemeinde,

mein erster Beitrag beschreibt auch gleich ein Problem mit SUSE 10.1.

Wollte GNU/Linux endlich mal testen. Habe mich vorerst für SUSE 10.1 entschieden. Soll auch für die erste Eingewöhnungszeit so bleiben. Zu meinem Problem:

Habe SUSE 10.1 installiert, verlief auch ohne Probleme. Damit ich auch 3D-Anwendungen nutzen kann, wollte ich den ATI-Linux-Treiber installieren. Dazu habe ich mich an diese Anleitung gehalten. Der aktuelle ATI-Treiber, den ich installiert habe, ist fglrx_6_9_0_SUSE101-8.28.8-1.i386.rpm. Nach dem Neustart hat sich die KDE-Umgebung aufgehängt. Den Mauszeiger konnte ich noch ruckhaft bewegen, doch sonst hat sich alles aufgehängt.

Jetzt bitte ich euch mir zu helfen, wie ich dem Problem auf die Schliche kommen kann, um es zu lösen.

- SUSE habe ich auf einer zweiten Festplatte (20GB) installiert.
- die Grafikkarte ist eine RADEON 8500 SE (Dritthersteller)
- Linux-Kernel: 2.6.16.21-0.13-default (tty1)
- KDE-Version: 3.5.1.69.32
- SUSE-Vers.: 10.1-58.7

Der heißt aber nicht 'ati', sondern 'radeon', wenn ich recht informiert bin.

meinst du ich soll in der xorg.conf von "fglrx" auf "radeon" umstellen?

Also kann ich nur den Distributions-Treiber von SUSE nehmen und muss auf 3D-Anwendungen verzichten?

NACK, sofern X den Chipsatz der GK erkennt wird der radeon Treiber geladen. Nur wenn dies nicht funktioniert muss explizit radeon angegeben werden.

Etwas wie ein "Distributions-Treiber von SUSE" existiert nicht.
Es existiert sehr wohl der von mir empfohlene OSS X.org Treiber "ati" (bzw. "radeon").

Verzichten musst du auf gar nichts, denn verzichten kann man nur auf etwas was man hat.

Der CSS Ati Treiber unterstützt eine radeon 8500 offiziell nicht, 3D definitiv nicht. Der genannte OSS Treiber unterstützt OpenGL (aka 3D).

Ok, also kann ich den proprietären ATI-Treiber nicht benutzen, wenn ich eine Pixelview RADEON 8500 SE mit OpenGL nutzen will.

Und wie stelle ich den radeon korrekt ein, damit 3D-Anwendungen mit diesem laufen. Nach der Installation von SUSE 10.1 war dieser eingerichtet doch OpenGL-Anwendungen sind immer abgeschmiert...

So habe den alten Treiber deinstalliert und habe es nach dieser NEUEN ATI-Linux-Treiber Installationsanleitung versucht..

Vorweg:

(1) Es sind alle Packete installiert bis auf:
- XFree86-Mesa-libGL
- XFree86-libs

Da SUSE x.org benutzt, dachte ich, seien diese nicht notwendig. Oder habe ich da etwas falsch verstanden.

(2) Dazu hätte ich auch gleich ein Paar Verständisfragen. Wofür steht der Punkt

POSIX Shared Memory (/dev/shm) support is required for 3D apps

und wie stelle ich fest, ob diese Anwendung installiert ist? Mit RPM konnte ich nichts finden.

(3) Mit diesen beiden Hinweisen konnte ich leider auch nichts anfangen. Also meine Graka ist eine AGP-Karte und mein Kernel neuer als 2.6.11.

Note: If a Linux 2.6.11 or newer kernel was built with CONFIG_AGP enabled, the kernel AGP frontend is required to load the fglrx kernel module. To identify whether your kernel was built with CONFIG_AGP enabled, look for CONFIG_AGP=y in the kernel config file, or if the 'agpgart' module loaded.

Note: In order to use the fglrx internal AGP support, you have to make sure that the kernel agpgart support is not active, i.e. it is not compiled into the kernel and the kernel modules are not loaded. If the fglrx kernel module detects that the kernel agpgart support is active, it will automatically use that even if its internal AGP support is requested in order to avoid conflicts that can cause problems under some circumstances.

ich habe gelesen, die "Pixelview RADEON 8500 SE" müsste ebenso wie die RADEON 8500 von ATI funktionieren ... gleicher Chipaufbau.

Wieso bist du sicher, dass es nicht gehen soll?

Also als Linux-Neuling kann ich aus der Log sowie aus der xorg.conf keine schlauen Schlüsse ziehen...

Fänds nur schade, wenn ich auf 3D verzichten müsste.

Zum Vergrößern anklicken....

keine Fehlermeldung, eingefrohen wie mit ATI-Treiber. Nur dass ich - im Gegensatz zum ATI-Versuch - eine 3D-Anwendung (z.B. Bildschirmschoner) für einen Absturz starten musste.

Wieso bist du sicher, dass es nicht gehen soll?

Nein. Aber Ati selber gibt Einschränkungen (ziemlich undefiniert) zu. Also nerv Ati
