UMTS STICK nur mit root Rechten

Moin zusammen,


ich habe mir einen surfstick (Huawei K3565 rev2) von vodafone zugelegt. Im Prinzip funktioniert er wie erwartet, allerdings muss ich jedes Mal zum Einloggen den PIN angeben, obwohl ich ihn im network manager hinterlegt habe. Damit kann ich noch leben, aber dass ich nur als root eine Verbindung aufbauen kann, ist ein wenig nervig - vor allem für die anderen 'normalen' Benutzer.
Es handelt sich um linux-e0a7.site 2.6.37.6-0.7-desktop mit XFCE 4.8.0 und network manager (applet) 0.8.2. Die user sind Mitglied in den Gruppen dialout und uucp.
Hat jemand einen guten Tipp?

also Huawei hat mir bei allen UMTS-Geräten die ich je benutzt habe, die geringsten Probleme bereitet. (Sende auch gerade aus Dänemark über ein solches.)
Als "GUI" solltest du das "plasmoid-networkmanagement - NetworkManager client for KDE 4" nehmen, was in den Repos drin ist. (Keine Ahnung, ob das mit XFCE funktioniert, wenn nicht, nehme ich alles zurück ... .) Das funktioniert wirklich perfekt. Du musst nur aufpassen, dass du das Paket "mobile-broadband-provider-info" mit installierst.
Bei der Installation fliegt der konkurrierende KNetworkManager raus.
Ich gehe davon aus, dass damit das PIN-Problem gelöst ist. Das Plasmoid arbeitet mit KWallet zusammen und speichert die PIN dort. Kannst sie aber auch als Option im Klartext speichern.
Sollte ich mit meinem Tipp völlig daneben liegen, hast du ja noch die von Jägerschlürfer beschriebene Methode, die PIN zu entsorgen.

Bei der Geschichte mit der Berechtigung weiß ich noch nicht recht, was du da falsch gemacht hast. Ich selbst bin noch nicht einmal in der Gruppe uucp.
Was passiert bei dir? Fehlermeldungen? Logfiles? Oder ist es nur das beliebte DNS-Problem bei bestehender Verbindung?

wie gesagt, der Stick als solcher funktioniert einwandfrei, und auch die eigentliche Installation war ok.
Die Variante, den PIN zu deaktivieren habe ich noch nicht probiert - ist aber der backup erster Wahl.

Das Paket "mobile-broadband-provider-info" ist in der Version 20100510-2.1 installiert.
Den Pin habe ich auch in den Einstellungen der Vodafone websession im NetworkManager eingetragen.
Daher wundert es mich ein wenig, dass ich den PIN trotzdem eingeben muss und solange ich das Passwort für root nicht eingegeben habe, wird der Versuch die websession aufzumachen terminiert.
Nach Eingabe von PIN und root Passwort wird die Verbindung bei anklicken der websession im NEtworkmangagger Menu hergestellt.

Du mußt in der Gruppe dialout sein, dann soolte es klappen. Yast "Verwaltung von Benutzern und Gruppen", dort kannst Du es hinzufügen.
 
Ok, PIN Abfrage deaktiviert und root Rechte sind kein Thema mehr. Der Sicherheitsverlust bei websessions bezgl. SIM nicht mit PIN geschützt, ist wohl das kleiner Übel.
Der Haken Automatisch Verbinden hat allerdings immer noch keine Funktion, stört aber nicht weiter.

Folgende Anleitung habe ich bei meinen Huawei Stick(s) verwendet ... (E160 / E161 / E220) und das hat für 11.3 und 11.4 bestens funktioniert.

1. Installieren von Paketen
umtsmon
smpppd
usb_modeswitch

2. Als Root in der Konsole:
chmod a+xs /usr/sbin/pppd
chmod a+rwxs /usr/sbin/usb_modeswitch

3. YAST Runleveleditor "smpppd" aktivieren

4. Benutzerverwaltung dem User die Gruppen
dialout
uucp

5. In der Konsole
lsusb

(Zeigt alle USB Geräte an. Beim HUAWEI Modem die Produkt / Vendor Daten notieren. Bei mir: "12d1" und "1003")

6. Als Root in der Konsole
usb_modeswitch -v 12d1 -p 1003 -d1 -H1

7. Datei etc/udev/rules.d/99-umts.rules anlegen
SUBSYSTEM==“usb“, SYSFS{idProduct}==“1003“, SYSFS{idVendor}==“12d1“, RUN+=“usb_modeswitch -v 12d1 -p 1003 -d1 -H1“

8. Start „umtsmon“
- Anlegen APN
